For the first time ever, Paratus Business News proudly launches its Summer Apocalypse and Survival Book Festival highlighting some of the most notable fictional TEOTWAWKI books on the market. This is part one of a two part series.
As any fan of literature could attest, the market for apocalyptic survival fiction is as full as its ever been. And so as the dog days of summer take hold, it’s never been a better time to relax in the bunker, or chill on the beach, with thrilling SHTF adventures.
This week, we start with a review what we call a “foundational” apocalyptic thriller: a book that pre-dates the modern world of prepping and self-reliance as we know it, and obviously inspired the authors of today.
The 1949 edition of “Earth Abides” is perhaps one of the first popular apocalypse fictional stories in which the world’s population is decimated by a mysterious virus. The story follows one young man’s quest to survive a world in which the majority of humans are gone. Besides food and water, what other challenges does he face, and is he forced to live the rest of his days alone? Click here for the full review.
Next we’ll jump into the beginning of a new series by Angery American (author of the incredibly popular “Going Home” series) and Walt Browning that introduces us to Charlie, a successful pharmaceautical rep, as she attempts to survive the city immediately after an EMP knocks out America’s electrical infrastructure and everything tied to it. We’ll cover both the novella “Charlie’s Requiem” and the subsequent novel “Charlie’s Requiem: Democide.” Click here for the full review.
We stay in the EMP genre for our third choice of this week’s book festival with “The Blackout Series” by Bobby Akart. In “36 Hours,” a stay-at-home mom has a short amount of time to become a prepper as she races to protect her family from the destructive solar storm threatening to end the modern, electronic world as we know it, all while her music executive husband is away on business. Finally, we close out Part One of the SASB Festival with a true prepper’s fantasy “Return to Life.” In this page turner, we follow what happens when you do everything right: complete the training, have all the equipment and recruit the right team, and yet the world still falls apart and the going gets real tough.
