BOULDER, C0lo. – Red Fox Outdoor Equipment, an outdoor manufacturer of technical mountaineering equipment and clothing headquartered in Russia, announced the grand opening of a new store in this Rocky Mountain college town.
The company currently operates a flagship store in Lyons, Colo. where it offers an assortment of high-end and durable outdoor apparel and gear. Outdoor adventurers throughout Northern Colorado will be able to visit the new Red Fox store in downtown Boulder at 1218 Pearl Street.
According to the Lyons Times-Call newspaper, the store was founded because Russia’s new free-market economy in 1989 lacked decent outdoors stores. “With no available, highly technical clothing or equipment being manufactured in Russia, alpinists Vladislav Moroz and Alexander Glushkovsky saw an opportunity to satisfy a significant need for the outdoor enthusiasts climbing the peaks of Russia’s Caucasus, Pamir, and Tien Shan mountains,” reported the paper.
As the story goes, the Leningrad-based company was launched in the founder’s basemen. Today, as it competes with larger world brands like North Face, the founders ask: why buy cold weather gear manufactured in the hot jungles of Asia, when you can have gear made by people living in one of the coldest nation’s on earth?
While the company does not specifically cater to the survival genre like most American-based outdoor retailers, it does boast premium men’s and women’s outdoor clothing and technical gear including functional tents, backpacks, clothing and accessories. Red Fox focuses its accessories on hiking, camping, climbing, backpacking, mountaineering, running and traveling.
In addition to expanding its brick-and-mortar locations, Red Fox shoppers can browse for outdoor gear and apparel through its website.
