HOLLYWOOD, CALIF. – On Friday nights, more than eight million viewers turned on ABC to watch the comedy “Last Man Standing.” In the show, Tim Allen plays a sporting goods store executive, who proudly admits that he is a prepper. The show was one of the most popular on TV, just about 3 million viewers shy of the most popular shows on network television, and yet it got cancelled.
Clearly, Allen’s politically-conservative character, and his respectful portrayal of the prepper mindset, set the show apart from all other television, but its popularity and subsequent cancellation has a lot of people crying foul.
Readers may remember Allen for his first hit TV show “Home Improvement.” In “Last Man Standing,” he and his TV wife are unabashed preppers.
In the episode “The Wolf Returns” (9/25/15) a long scene plays out in his underground shelter packed with emergency food supplies. In the very next episode “Free Range Parents” (10/2/15) he chastises an employee for not having a bug-out location and a survival cache.
In response to the cancellation, more than 360,000 people signed a petition to get the show back on television days after the news was announced.

The petition makes some salient points, “‘Last Man Standing’ was not just selling conservative ideals though, as some of the characters in the show are clearly of the liberal persuasion, yet the characters on the show all manage to get along and take care of one another, despite their politically opposed views. The show is about more than politics though, it is about family.”
Allen has basically kept his comments low key. But his fans are speaking up.
Paratus Business News agrees with the outcry. Whether you agree with his politics, the respectful tone towards preppers is refreshing. We definitely want to see more of it on television especially when shows with less viewers were not cancelled.
