REDONDO BEACH, Calif. – Never let it be said that preppers don’t have a sense of humor. Case in point, one of the most prolific marketers of preparing for the worst may have created one of the best, light-hearted contests around.
After a two year hiatus, Safecastle has revived its limerick contest for survivalists. They call it the “Apocalimericks Contest” and it is live.
“Real preppers like a little rhyme (or is it reason?) in their chowder,” says the contest announcement. And it’s great way to win free survival gear.
For the entire month of March, the online survival retailer will give away at least one $20 gift certificate to Safecastle.com.
If you want to win, there really is only one criteria: “Our selections will be based solely on what makes us here at Safecastle laugh.”
The company is limiting entries to one per week per person (Sunday thru Saturday). And two gift certificates per winner thru the contest period is their award limit per person.
What’s an apocalimerick? Here are some of the winners from previous years:
2017 Week 1 Winner, Feb. 25: submitted by Ang in Indiana …
I once feared a massive EMP
Welfare zombies without EBT
I filled up the larder
Bought items to barter
Now my family won’t speak to me.
Winner #5, March 29, 2013: submitted by Amberchrome …
Note this family, the Abercrombies,
Who keep a close lookout for “zombies!”
They’re tooled up to shred
a horde of undead,
while swearing, “It’s all just a hobby!”
